What is all the "F" about ? It is 'genetic speak' for Filial and refers to generations.
ALC is the abbreviation for Asian Leopard Cat.
Bengal breeders refer to the generations like this:
F-1 is the first generation. The cross between the ALC and the domestic cat.
Genetically this is refered to as a hybrid.
F-2 is the second generation. The result of mating the offspring (the F-1) and the domestic cat.
F-3 is the third generation. The result of mating the F-2 and the domestic cat.
The result of this mating is now called the Bengal Cat or Domestic Bengal.
F-4 is the mating of an F-3 to another F-3 or Bengal to Bengal.
